Mother's Milk

Image
Taken from here Why do humans feel ok about drinking milk from some animals, but not all? Why not drink cat or dog milk? Why be horrified about drinking milk from another human? We are a very strange & complicated species... A mother's milk, whatever mammal, is intended for her offspring. It contains everything her baby needs to grow & develop - the perfect nutrients needed until her offspring is ready to be weaned. A cow is far bigger than any human, so for us to be including it in our diet seems crazy to me - won't it mean that we have the potential to become as big as a cow? Is that why kids are growing so much quicker? And taller? Apparently, kids are hitting puberty earlier now than ever & the cause is not only milk, but all the other stuff that's in it. Women also seem to be hitting the menopause early too - I remember being told at school that the normal age range was 51 to 55, but how often are women becoming menopausal  in their early 40s? No ...

The Accidental Garden Safari

Image
Yesterday, we had another easy work day & managed to finish early... We had to call at the village shop in Gorran Haven & just decided on impulse to go for a walk to make the most of the lovely warm sunshine. We left the car on the car park & set off... Gorran Haven Beach is at the bottom of the village.  It's about 2 miles away from where we live... Surprisingly, there weren't many folks on the beach for a Saturday afternoon. And such a lovely day... Church Street. Looking back down the way we walked...  We haven't been along this path for years, so thought we'd check out the views... The beach from another angle.  We usually walk the coastal path over the other side of the bay. Perhaver Beach which is the next one along from Gorran Haven. This house is always entertaining! At the top of Cliff Road we intended on taking the coastal path towards Portmellon. But as we passed a house which was part of the village garden safari afternoon, we discovere...

Work Home Kneading Rising Grinding Puréeing Straining Soaking  Rinsing  Washing Spinning Whizzing Emailing Reading Watching Listening Talking (a lot) Laughing Playing Singing Cooking Eating  Drinking Showering snuggling Sleeping And then it starts all over again... It's all good, we're happy & that's the main thing. We are getting into our work rhythm, we're organised & achieving lots. We have energy & strength. We're eating well - sometimes late, but we feel good. We've spent quality time with Hugo, which has been nice & we are reminded of how lucky we are... We have such lovely buddies. Though the highlight of my week... For the first time in 26 years, I have been able to hold off Sime beating me in an arm wrestling match...Yes!!! I think it's all the spinach...Hahaha! My upper arm muscles have become rather large & it makes us laugh... But really it's great & just another sign that my body i...

Our Guest Room

Image
At last we've finished preparing our guest room. Everything in there is either old or been given to us, hence the quirky curtain arrangement! We'll probably change it round again at some point, as we want to put a writing desk in there to attract writers - it's such an ideal place & we've already had enquiries from some who are looking for long stays, so it's exciting! Some of the furniture is from a holiday property we look after, so not really our cup of tea... But it was free! The walls are wood panelled & the room is the brightest in the house! Entrance to the en-suite shower room. We have a similar en-suite in our room, so are very lucky! Though ours isn't as tidy... Hahaha! The showers are amazing - we are spoilt!  They are the best showers we have ever used, which has always left us disappointed when travelling, nothing compares to them. Anyway, here is the website we are featured on:  Air B&B    Just got the rest of the house to sort ...

Weekend Starts Here

Image
We've worked today, but it's been a wonderfully straightforward day... Our first B&B guests cancelled their stay with us - due to the weather... Luckily, we still got paid, so nevermind & it means I get to go out instead, as tonight Sime's off to the most westerly village in mainland Britain - where The Dolphins Fly have a gig... We've also got 2 days off - which is nice! Hope you're all having a lovely weekend. Kay & Sime  xx

Falmouth, Fire, Food & Family

Image
We arranged to see the girlies today...  It's a bit mean of us really as Hugo was going off to the home education group, so he missed out yet again. On arrival Rose was keen to show us the  Falmouth Beach Hotel , which caught fire on Monday & is just a few minutes walk from her flat. The hotel is a well known venue in Cornwall & is where a lot of people from the entertainment business stay when performing in the area. Fortunately, nobody was hurt - but it's still really sad. The hotel overlooks Gyllyngvase Beach... Which was looking lovely in the sunshine. These gardens are next to the beach & opened in 1912 to commemorate the coronation of the wife of King George V... And are renowned for their sub tropical plants, bushes & trees. Next we went into Falmouth town centre... This was originally Falmouth's first cinema, also built in 1912. It now has some funky shops selling clothes, books, maps & music. De Wynn's is one of Falmouth's olde...
